On Thursday 19th November the Regent House fundraising committee teamed up with the Scripture Union to visit the Compassion Centre at Thriving Life Church in Newtownards. The church runs a food bank that is a vital community project, helping families who are struggling to make ends meet by providing food hampers.

The fundraising committee prepared for the visit by asking for food donations from Regent pupils and their families and friends. We were delighted to receive the fantastic amount of 180kg of assorted food items. We would all like to say a big “thank you” to everyone who made a donation.

Our volunteers delivered the donations to the Food Bank, where we were able to take part in weighing and sorting the food to prepare it for hamper selection. A typical food package contains a cereals, pasta, rice, Smash, sauces, tinned products including fish, meat, vegetables and fruit, jam, cordial, tea, coffee, biscuits, custard, powdered milk and sugar. We were pleased to be able to pack these hampers so they were ready for delivery to families in our local community who can’t afford to put meals on their tables themselves.

We had a blast volunteering at the Food Bank and it gave us all a real sense of a community spirit. It’s good to know that our work and your donations will go towards helping those most in need this Christmas time. Once again thank you very much to everyone for your generosity.
