The Swim Ulster Schools’ Championships were held on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October and the Regent swimmers performed very well over the 2 days against the best swimmers in Ulster.

On Saturday our Year 8 swimmers had a number of successes. Kiera Aiken finished 2nd in the 12 Year Olds 50m Breaststroke and 3rd in the 100m Individual Medley. Megan Diamond reached the finals of the 12 Year Olds 50m Backstroke. Gene Smyth came 3rd in the 12 Year Olds 100m Individual Medley. Kiera, Megan and Gene all qualified for the Irish Minor Schools’ Championships which will be held in Dublin in February.

On the second day of the championships Kiera Aiken reached the finals of the Junior 100m Breaststroke. Adam Barnes in Year 10 came 1st in both the Junior 100m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle. Whilst Naeve Pountney in Year 10 reached the finals of the Intermediate 100m Backstroke.

The Junior Girls’ Relay team of Alyssa Boyd, Sofie Heasley, Kiera Aiken, Megan McBride and Megan Diamond narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in 4th place in both the Medley Team Relay and the Freestyle Team Relay.

The Junior Boys’ Relay team of Adam Barnes, Joe Simpson, Killian McCandless and Gene Smyth came 4th in the Medley Team Relay and 3rd in the Freestyle Team Relay.

Rebecca Reid in Year 13 came 1st in both the Senior 100m Butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley.
