Drop Everything and Read Day!

Drop Everything and Read Day!

In a bid to continue to promote reading here in school, we are going to have our next DEAR day (Drop Everything and Read) - This will be held on TUESDAY 19TH DECEMBER.

There will be 2 reading slots on this day. One from 9.40 – 10.15 (period 2) and the second from 11.40 – 12.15 (period 5).

Please ensure that your child has some appropriate reading material in school with them on this day. There are many books available in the library which they can borrow in advance.  If your child has no reading material with them, they will be given a text book or any other material their teacher finds suitable.

We hope that everyone will embrace the opportunity of having time to read in school.

Your sincerely,

L Hutton
Literacy Co-ordinator

Regent Choir Ulster Hall Performance

Regent Choir Ulster Hall Performance

On an icy cold Saturday morning, the Senior Choir and Chamber Choir ventured to Belfast’s iconic Ulster Hall, to rehearse and perform in the BBC’s ‘Ten Pieces’ Family Concert.

After an initial warm-up with Mr McQueen, our pupils (and teachers!) took their seats behind the Ulster Orchestra to practice ‘Zadok the Priest’ with conductor Rory Macdonald.

After a few run-throughs, and a sound check, it was lunchtime - Nando’s, Pizza Express and the Christmas Market being popular choices.

On returning to the Ulster Hall, concert-goers were queued outside, and excitement started to build as the final audience seats were filled.

Presenters John Toal and CBBC’s Naomi Wilkinson gave a warm welcome to Regent House and the choir gave an excellent performance!

Well done Junior Choir!

Well done Junior Choir!

On Friday night, our Junior Choir sang ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ on the BBC Children in Need Live Show. They joined with young people from all corners of the UK in a 1788 strong ‘super choir’ and performed to an enormous national TV audience.

The standard of singing in the Northern Ireland choir was exceptional and our pupils were a true credit to the school.

On top of the excitement of the live performance, our pupils enjoyed a performance by Jake Carter and Mrs Mort and Mrs Adgey got a photo with their favourite weather presenter, Barra Best.

A great night really was had by all!

If you missed the Live Show on Friday night or the ‘Northern Ireland Best Bits’ on Sunday, you can find both on BBC iPlayer.

Again, well done Junior Choir!

Rebecca Reid in Year 12 came 1st in both the Intermediate 100m Backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley.  Rebecca’s time of 1:22.25 in the 200m Individual Medley broke the Ulster Junior record.

Regent v Banbridge Academy - Intermediate A's Netball

Regent v Banbridge Academy - Intermediate A's Netball

Our intermediate netball team had an exciting and tight match against Banbridge Academy.

The pressure was on as it was our first match of the season and it was a Cup match. We were all very happy with how we played. Rebecca Marshall moved great and scored really nice shots. Paige Irvine was very accurate at shooting and held her space very well. Sophie Jakobsen worked extremely hard to get free and mark her player. Anna Stevenson also got free lots and helped outside the circle really well. Anya Miller was great at marking her player and getting free. Holly Thompson was really good at changing direction and moving quickly. Ellie O’Connor’s defending was great and she worked really hard in the circle. Lucy Mayne marked her player well and got some really nice interceptions.

Overall, we are really happy with the result, 12-9 to Regent! And we hope to continue like this and improve as a team.
