Career Advice
In today’s complex, competitive and rapidly changing world we recognise the importance of ensuring that a high quality careers provision exists for all pupils. Careers education is provided in the curriculum for all pupils from specialist careers staff under the direction of Miss Byrne (Head of Employability) and Mrs McNiece (Head of Careers).
Careers Education, Information and Guidance (CEIAG) is primarily delivered through Employability classes and activities in Years 8 – 12 and through our General Studies programme in Years 13 and 14.

The Department for the Economy’s (DfE) online system, Connect to Success NI promotes and advertises work experience opportunities for school pupils. Employers registered on the system offer hundreds of work experience opportunities across Northern Ireland (in many cases across multiple locations).

The school also provides individual personal careers advice, psychometric tests (matching skills and qualities to suitable career paths), Personal Career Action Plans, assistance with all aspects of UCAS, work experience, practice interviews, a Careers Convention, Years 10 and 12 Careers Information Days, an excellent careers library and advice on career pathways leading to employment. Year 10 and 12 Subject Choice Evenings and a UCAS Information Evening are also held annually to communicate information and advice to parents.
The school welcomes additional support from the Careers Service. Our current Career Advisors interview all Year 12 pupils and any Year 13 or 14 pupils by request. She also attends our Year 10 and 12 Parent Meetings and assists with advising our Year 12 students on GCSE Results Day. The Careers Department also maintains close links with local employers, FE colleges and universities who assist with work experience, Year 10 and 12 Careers Information Days and our Careers, FE and HE Convention.
The Governors also appreciate the assistance of parents and past pupils with Mock University Interviews for many Year 14 pupils. The Careers Department is also working closely with other local schools as part of the Area Learning Partnership promoting STEM careers.
