Year 13 Politics Trip to Queens University Lectures

On Wednesday 18th January 2017, 17 Year 13 Politics students accompanied by Mrs Bailie attended two lectures at Queen’s University Belfast.

The first lecture was delivered by Professor John Barry which was titled “Power Sharing in Northern Ireland or Power Being Shared Out.” This covered from 1998 to present day politics in Northern Ireland and was beneficial as it provided us pupils with additional information and examples which can be used in examination answers.

The second lecture was conducted by Dr Peter McLaughlin called “Party Competition in Northern Ireland: The Move to the Extremes.” This covered the change in the composition of the Northern Ireland Assembly from 1998 to present day and while the electorate are changing who they are voting for.

All pupils found this an extremely interesting and beneficial day and also gave us an insight into some of University life and how lectures will be conducted.
