Alicia makes it through to Chemistry Olympiad 3rd round

Congratulation to Alicia Huntley, a year 14 student, who has successfully negotiated the first two rounds of the Irish Chemistry Olympiad.

This is a competition for students in the final year of secondary level education and it is used to select two students to represent Ireland at the 49th International Chemistry Olympiad in Nakhon, Thailand.   140 students from Northern Ireland (NI) and the Republic of Ireland (RoI) were invited to take part in the first round, held in DCU on the 1st April. Alicia achieved a Silver award and was then one of sixteen pupils invited to attend a two day intensive selection process.

During her time in DCU Alicia attended lectures and practical sessions followed by a gruelling examination in which she was placed in the top six students.  Further selection will occur in May and then in Early July.  The top two students will represent Ireland at the 49th International Chemistry Olympiad in Nakhon, Thailand.
